Festive coin: Centenary of the birth of Manolis Andronikos

Front side: Manolis Andronikos (1919-1992) was one of the greatest archaeologists of Greece. His discovery of the royal tombs at Vergina in 1977 brought to light exceptional findings that testify to the splendour of ancient Macedonian civilisation.

The design features a portrait of Manolis Andronikos. On the inner edge, the name “MANOLIS ANDRONIKOS 1919-1992” is inscribed on the left, together with the year of minting and a palmette (the mint mark of the Hellenic Mint); on the right is the text “HELLENIC REPUBLIC”. The monogram of the artist (George Stamatopoulos) is also visible. The outer ring of the coin bears the 12 stars of the European flag.
